Peter Halley USA, b. 1953
Peter Halley combines abstraction, geometry and social commentary through painting and theoretical writing. Re-imagining the square as a symbol of confinement and connectivity, his work explores the structures of contemporary life. Halley's geometric forms recall Josef Albers’ investigations of colour and perception, developed in part through his time in Mexico and reflected in his series Homage to the Square. His use of colour also resonates with the transformative architecture of Luis Barragán. Anticipating the visual language of the digital age, Halley’s luminous, fluorescent works reflect the networked world we live in today.
