Biography

Much like her living relatives, Bassi was deeply fascinated by the subconscious, transformation, and the cycles of life and death, themes that permeate her richly layered and dreamlike compositions.

Sofía Bassi is remembered for her fairytale-like narratives as well as her otherworldly references, both which boldly explore surrealism, symbolism, and the human condition. She famously began painting while imprisoned in Acapulco, an experience that profoundly shaped her introspective and imaginative approach.
